Quilting day out with the girls

I haven't had time to post about our quilting day in Anacortes - which was Feb 21. It is always fun to get together with quilting friends. All of us are from NW Washington and belong to a Yahoo group. We plan get togethers in the south and in the north areas - and Anacortes is for those who live in the northern part of the state - though we do have ladies that come from the Seattle area - and from a little more east. We eat, and talk, and laugh and have drawings, and play games and learn new things, have show and tell, eat more, laugh more, share our lives and just generally have a grand time. We meet almost every month at a cottage that has been remodeled and is rented to groups that want to do crafts, exercise, have book clubs - just about anything you can think of.

Our show and tell was, as usual, spectacuar. These are some very creative ladies.

Vickie is making this lovely purple quilt for one of her daughters who was in an auto accident. She was machine quilting it that day.

When one of our group has a baby, goes to the hospital, celebrates a special ocassion, looses a loved one - or anything else monumental - we all make blocks - this block is Jacob's Heart - in colors that the recipient has picked (sometimes we have to trick them into telling us their favorite colors) and then we send the blocks to one member who has volunteered to piece the top. Another member machine quilts it - with some of us donating batting and backing
Tina had surgery recently and this is the comfort quilt we all made for her. She was surprised when she received it.
Sue Bee made this Blazing Nine Patch quilt. . .

Sue Bee - again - lovely as always - she made this in a class.

With enough leftover for a table topper or wall hanging. . .

Sue Bee's raffle quilt - she gets more done than any quilter I know - unless you count Diane. They are tied for most quilts made.

Sue Bee - log cabin with applique - I love the colors and design of this one . . .
Mary's bright stack 'n whack - each quilt turns out so different from the others . . .

Mary's Warm Wishes teddy bear quilt - any baby will be happy sleeping under this. . .

Cute and bright baby quilt by Mary . . .
Dian's appliqued pinwheel quilt - the flowers in the middle of the pinwheels are appliqued . . .
Diane's racing car quilt for her youngest son, it is headed to the machine quilter. . .
Diane's teeny tiny quilt - compare it to the size of the hand holding it - so tiny and so cute. She cut the pattern down from a full size quilt. Diane also made a fabulous paper pieced carousel horse - hundreds of pieces - I didn't get a picture of it - I'll try and get it next time. It is fabulous.

You've seen this one before - it is the seed packet quilt I made for our oldest daughter's office.

And one more from Sue Bee - Hunter's Star.

It was a fun day and lots of quilting got done - thanks for stopping by our quilt show!!

  5. I would be proud to own any of these quilts! My grandma was a big quilter and she and her friends got together for monthly quilting bees. Her quilts are still around today.
