Ben's new quilt

I've been working on a quilt for Ben's room for a while now - my quilting friends have heard about it - but not in my blog - as it was a surprise.  We gave it to him yesterday when they came to visit and he loved it.  Then later in the evening we went to Ben's house for a barbecue and they had put it on his bed- and I got more pictures.

It was the most fun to make - I used 5" squares of boy prints.  I had a hard time at first, finding enough prints - and then they began pouring in. I bought some on Etsy - and Dena  at Threads to Fabric Blog had a big basket full of swaps she had done for kid prints.

At one of our sew-ins she let me dig through her basket and cut all the squares I wanted - what a sweetie.  Be sure and visit Dena's blog - you will see some amazing quilts, plus she's just a nice person to be friends with.  Another friend, Cecelia (no blog - and I want to know WHY NOT?) from Georgia - formerly of upstate NY - sent me a nice bundle of boy prints also.

Finally enough blocks and I started on the quilt.  My first attempt was not good - I was going to use alternating squares of solid colors with the prints - but it was far too busy - so once those first four rows were unsewn I decided on the pale yellow sashing.  Good choice!!

I tied the quilt and did the binding in scrappy stars on blue - it came out great.

On Ben's bed . . .

This was so much fun - have you got a new quilt to show us?  Or a cute grandson?

Ben registers for Kindergarten

On Monday we were invited to go along with Ben and his parents to the Kindergarten registration and tour - and what a good time we had.

First thing - it was cold and blustery so Ben had to zip up  his coat - don't you just love those cow boots?

A welcome sign just inside the door . . .

Getting a name tag - written on a school bus . . .

And a book bag - three styles to pick from  - Ben decided on a penguin . . .

In the classroom the kids wrote their names and then found a table with something interesting on it. Ben picked the table with foam shapes, so he could build a shape train.

Touring the school bus - where each child got a snack . . .

Running to Grampy after the school bus tour . ..

Listening to the principal speaking . . .

The hand washing station - discovering how the foot controls work . . . such interesting things in school . . .

And running around the circle at top speed on the new indoor playground - the end of the tour.  What a fun day!!!
