More of My Friend's Yard

Besides all the lovely flowers, bushes, trees, birdhouses and lake views - my friend has the most amazing rhododendrons - and they were in prime full bloom the day we were there.

I've never seen such huge blossoms - and the bushes were completely covered with blooms . . .

Just stand for a moment and enjoy the scent and the glory of such wonderful flowers . . .

Aren't these the most fabulous flowers you've ever seen?
Thank you dear friend, for sharing the day with us.

A Day In A Friend's Yard

My friend lives in a state park - and her house and yard are fabulous. Set near a lake -the views are astounding and her flowers make you dizzy with happiness. A few of us spent the day there one day this summer - and we got a wonderful tour of the yard.

This is the backyard - above - I love the rustic fence and the view into the yard.

Flowers were everywhere - and I mean everywhere!

A view into the meadow beyond the fence . . .

Backyard . . .
Rustic wooden fences . . .

Lichen on the fence rails . . .

A lovely old man tree . . .

Sun Roses . . .

Poppies . . .

A view of the lake . . .

Now isn't that just the best sign you've ever seen?

I just can't get enough views of that lake . . .

Purple irises . . .

The lake yet again - way out is a tiny speck of a man in a rowboat . . . (note to self - buy a camera with better zoom)

Golden Chain Tree - in full bloom . . .

Along the back fence . . .
The meadow by the lake - we sat in the sunshine with this spectacular view . . .

Backyard - bustling with bushes and plants . . .

The road coming in . . .

The road going out - their driveway is almost half a mile long . . .

More rustic fences - this yard is such a delight . . .

And Daisies - of course you have to have Daisies in a country yard . . .

Birdhouses here and there - and there was one with an active bird family in it . . .

Beauty bush - one of my favorites . . .

Light pink Beauty Bush - the scent is heavenly . . .

Darker pink Beauty Bush - I had not seen this before. I got cutting from both bushes and they have taken root - they will smell so good in my yard next summer.

Going out to the barn in back . . .

It was a delightful day in a splendidly fabulous yard!

A Farmer Quilt

My friend Susannah makes the most wonderful quilts - and I often succumb to the desire to make one "just like hers".

Her farmer quilt is the cutest thing I've seen in a long time and so of course I had to borrow the pattern from her (as far as I can tell it is not commercially made) and make my own Farmer Quilt.

These are my blocks - fused and ready for machine applique. I will also add hand embroidered embellishments - like stems for the flowers on each side of the girl - and flowers on her bouquet and in her hair.

There will also be a rope hanging down from the tree to attach to the swing seat, and a bill for the boy's cap . . .

And a needle in her hand - she is quilting . . .

Don't you just love her "fuzzy" slippers?

Handles on the milk pails . . .

Ma is feeding the chickens - have to embellish the chickens so you can tell what they are - and put a pan of chicken feed in her hands . . .

And add an embroidered clothesline - isn't that basket fabric fabulous?

This is Susannah's finished quilt - I want to be Susannah when I grow up!
