A Trip to Samish Island

We took a little drive down to Samish Island one fine summer day . . .

There are such pretty cottages along the bluffs - this rock one is charming - and now is a summer rental. Can't you just feel the summer sea breezes as you sit out on the lawn?

The side garden has a fence and a lovely arbor made from branches. . .

A nice place for an afternoon of reading and sipping iced tea . . .

The cottage even gets it own name!

Another stone cottage just down the road. These are real stones, gathered from the beach. That was not an easy task I'm sure, since the beach is straight down very steep bluffs.

Lovely flowers everywhere !

On the way back home we took a different route and came upon this darling Antique Shop - unfortunately it was closed . . .

Forever . . .

Masses of Goat's Beard lined the roads . . .

An interesting garden shed - appropriate for the seaside cliffs . . .

More flowers . . .

The views from the bluffs were astounding!

The clouds danced and sang . . .

It was a perfect day . . .

And there was a butterfly chair - just waiting for a child to come and sit and swing their legs back and forth and dream of fairies in the summer . . .

Wouldn't you just love to sit in a butterfly chair and dream of fairies?

The Rest of Birch Bay on My Birthday

A few more interesting things at Birch Bay . . .

A big rusted boat sitting on the beach, just waiting for the tide to come back in . . .

This weeping pussy willow had the faintest scent of cotton candy . . .

Lots of rock walls . . .

And plenty of nautical items . . .

And there is always ice cream in Birch Bay . . .

With a bird house on top . . .

And rusty sculptures . . .

My favorite gate . . .

Somebody is ready for Easter - I like this idea and might get up to Dollar Tree and get me a bunch of cute Easter things . . . though we don't have this perfect tree for decorating . . .

A lot of people in Birch Bay gather drift wood from the beaches - this yard was full of it . . .
I like the rock Inukshuk too . . .

A birdhouse sitting on driftwood . . .

This tree was full of beads - and sitting in one of the windows, reading his paper, was an older man - guess he is ready for Mardi Gras . . .

I was curious as to how they got some of those beads up there . . .

Don't you just love this driftwood hanging?

And that concludes our birthday trip to Birch Bay. Don asked me what I wanted to do that day, and I said "Go someplace and take a lot of pictures". Well, that is what we did, and we had a grand time doing it. Don will stop any time for me to take pictures - he's such a good sport.

What is your idea of a good birthday outing?
