Want to see something pretty?

I collect dishes - all sorts of dishes - different shapes, colors, patterns. And one of my favorites is milkglass. I have received some pretty pieces lately to add to what I already have.

I love the designs, the ruffles, the cutwork, the hobnails - oh I just love it all!!

After all the christmas pretties were put away I gathered all the milkglass, to display it on the buffet in the dining room. The dining room furniture has been in our family now for 6 generations and shows off the milk glass very well.

I know - the pink platter is not milk glass, but it was my very special gift from Don this christmas and it is perfect for setting the milkglass pitchers on.

This tall elegant pitcher was also a gift from Don . . .

Tiny little pitcher - only about 2 1/2" tall . . .

I use the round bowl on the right for fruit salad - perfect!!

A cheese dish, on top of a cutwork cake plate . . .

Pretty edges . . .

Anything with ruffles catches my eye . . . this lovely basket was a gift from Lori, Jay and Jahn . . . it is so delicate and pretty . . .

Another ruffled bowl . . .

And a ruffled rose bowl . . .

A little square box - nice for surprises and candy . . .

Do you any milkglass - and if not - why not? It is so cheery on a cold winter night - and so calming on a warm summer day. The perfect all-around dish.

Fun to see all of your milk glass, Jo, and yes, I have one piece... a compote. When I was little, I had a very old piece that was a set of hands. I'm not sure now what happened to it, but we had other pieces, too. Hmmmm... wonder where all of that went? It belonged to my grandmother. But the piece I have, I found for a great price, and it really is pretty. I'm fascinated by it.

Love what Don gave you. So sweet and pretty.

XO,

Sheila :-)

I love milk glass too, but have not started a collection, because I have enough other stuff to collect. My every day dishes are Fiesta Ware, and I have picked up a few vintage pieces - don't find much in Canada, but there's lots in USA!

No milk glass for me. I collect yellow American pottery - McCoy is my favorite. I love the sturdy sunny utility of it. Your collection is really appealing to the eye - I love the arrangement.

I love my pottery but I live with a super clutz. That lovely display would not last long before I'd have to rescue it.

I love milkglass, too. I don't know why I don't have any!

You have a really really beautiful collection of milkglass. I often see small hobnail vases and a lamp or two, but all those ruffled dishes and that covered cheese dish and cutwork cake plate are really special. It looks so striking against that red transferware platter. Thanks for sharing! ~Lili

Absolutely beautiful pieces, Jo! and the red/while platter just sets off those milkglass pitchers. I lost my desire for collecting anything after a house fire in Jan '79 and just can't get into it, but love viewing others collections ( like your pine dishes :)!

Have a great day!

Milkglass is very pretty. You must have lots of storage space for all the things you collect.
I should talk -- I collect old Singer sewing machines and they are all stuffed in a closet.

What a gorgeous collection. I love the look but don't have any. I collect miscellaneous stuff but not dishes!

ah, milkglass. :-) It was never quite my cup of tea but my Mom collected it. Lots of it. Mom passed on more than 12 years ago and all of her milkglass remains exactly where she left it; my Dad has never moved it.

Seeing your pictures brought a smile to my face. :-)

I have never purchased any milkglass but I have some lovely pieces from my mom and my mother-in-law. Your collection is very nice.

I have one piece, a large vase with ruffles at the top. It was a wedding present years ago. Just sorry I don't remember who gave it to me. It was someone from his side of the family or a friend of theirs. I like it a lot but the opening at the top is very narrow, too narrow for a dozen of any type of flower. But I keep it on display with flowers that will fit in it.
