Quilt Show - and Mosaic Monday

This morning Don and  I headed to Sedro Woolley - a small town south of here - for a quilt show and vintage car show.  First stop was brunch at Bob's in Burlington - ohhh the food.

This is the dessert table - I never saw so many delectable sweets.  I had a chocolate eclair.  (Besides the other good healthy food I ate too)

Then on to the quilt show - and the car show - oh drat - there was no car show - it was only yesterday - so while I went to the quilt show Don wandered down through the street fair to see what was going on there.  It had rained hard all the way to Sedro Woolley, but stopped when we got to the quilt show.

As I was signing in to the quilt show my friend Mary, from the Anacortes Sew-ins - was coming in too.  We crossed paths several times and had a good time discussing the quilts.  There were a lot of fabulous quilts - and I took 263 photos. I didn't realize that I had taken that many until I got home.  So much to see - and of course I needed a lot of close ups with my new camera.  I will only show a few here today - more to come later - and I think I'll make a slide show of the whole thing.

This Sunbonnet Sue quilt was amazing - made by a 90 year old lady, the embroidery was fabulous . . .

After Don finished at the street fair he came in to the quilt show and we made a couple more rounds - I had already been around three times.  He picked his favorite quilt - the watermelon log cabin.

Then we were done we wandered down through the street fair again - looking for a metal garden stake of a quail, but they were sold out.  Right next to that booth was a garden center and she was selling some untagged tomato plants for 1.25 each - I got three - 

 and she had Johnny Jump Ups for 50 cents for a 4" pot - I got 9 - I'm going to fill several planters with them tomorrow.  They are sitting on the porch right now - and it is pouring rain so they will be well watered when I transplant them.

Then home - and a nice long nap - it was a glorious day.

Mosaic Monday

Yesterday we drove down to the Tulip Festival in Skagit County - just a little south of here.  The sky was dull and overcast, like a very high fog, when we started out - but it got nicer as the day went on.  We stopped for burgers and salad and on the way out of the restaurant I heard someone say that they  had just come from the giant annual flea market at the fairgrounds - so off we went.  This is one of our favorites and we almost missed it.  Traffic was unbelievable - moving only inches with each light change - but finally we came to a spot where we could turn off the main street and zig zag over to the fairgrounds.  We parked close to the buildings that housed the flea market and had a grand time looking through tables and tables of wonderful stuff.  I'll show you my treasures another day. Then back in the car and off to see the tulips - we snuck out the back way and zipped down to the fields.

The flowers were the most amazing we've seen in all the time we've been going down to the festival.  We happened upon some fields that were not on the regular tour - brilliant colors - and the sun had come out so the flowers shone in the bright light.  I walked up and down taking photos - and stopped at a little shed to buy some yellow tulips.

Whatcom Falls Park is right in the middle of town. Bellingham is built on hills, many many hills - and we get to enjoy the benefits of rivers, streams, lakes and waterfalls right in town. This is one of our favorites - ok, I admit, they are all favorites. Upstream from the falls is a small lake that is a nursery for fish from the hatchery. It is full of ducks and sometimes a kayak or canoe. The falls are much less full this winter, as we've had a dry year, but still gorgeous. Click the mosaic to enlarge.
