What We Do On A Friday Night

On most any Friday night we take my cameras, a picnic supper and head for the bay. Usually it is the Alaska Ferry terminal, to watch the final loading of the cars and watch the ferry depart. We see a lot of interesting things on the bay . . .

Like this guy walking on water . . .

Up close with the new camera we see that he is on paddle board - he stands on that - and rarely falls in - as he paddles about on the bay . . . that new camera comes in handy when you can't see something clearly and think it is a miracle happening right before your eyes.

There are always kayaks on the bay . . .

Close up of a kayak . . .

Two guys in a boat - let's zoom up and see what they are doing . . .

Oh - going to put out some crab pots . . .

Sailing along on the bay . . .

Closer . . .

Closer . . .

This guy is working hard - guess he has to pay his passage some way . . .

A little boat on the bay . . . and look at town off in the distance . . .

With a seagull floating nearby - the things you can see with a good camera . . .

Did you look at town in that picture above? This is a close up . . .

There is the bow of the ferry - with a little sailboat in the bay . . .

There - that's better - we can see the boat so clearly . . .

And we look at clouds on Friday nights . . .

Here comes a little black boat . . .

The captain is up top . . .

Can you bear another boat far away?

And up close?

Oh- very close - enjoying your boat ride are you?

We really enjoy our Friday nights in the summer at the ferry terminal. We go in the winter too - but there aren't so many boats out then.

Boats On The Bay - My New Camera

More fun with my new camera - next we headed down to the bay - to one of our favorite spots - Zuanich Park, right on the bay. (This was when it was still summer - I am just now getting the posts done for summer - we are not having this kind of weather right now)

Look way out there - you see the tiny boat? This is at the highest zoom on my little camera . . .

Oh - now I see it!

There were lots of boats going in and out of the harbor - here we have a nice sailboat . . .

There are some people on the sailboat . . .

Lots of people . . .

Look way out, across the bay - look for the tall white "tower" on the right - near the end of the point of land . . .

A sailboat! This camera has some power!

A boat heading for the harbor . . .

Looks like everyone had a great day!

Here comes a working fishing boat - heading out . . .

The guys are busy at their jobs . . .

And even closer - look, that boat is from Alaska!

Now let's look across the bay, at town . . .

Nice houses in town . . .

Look up on the hillside, in the middle of the photo . . .

That's better - now we can really see that house!

The brick building in the center of the photo - taken at highest zoom with the old camera . . .

Up close and personal!

And the big freighter . . .

Wow - I can now see the name on the bow.

Now wasn't that fun?

New Camera - First Day - Lake Whatcom

This summer I finally got my new camera. It is a Canon Power Shot SX30 IS - and it is super wonderful.

The advertising said 35X zoom - but when fully extended it does 140 to 172X zoom - amazing!!!

So the day it arrived we headed out to try it out. We started at Lake Whatcom, right near our house - and what fun I had.

First I would take a picture with my old camera - a sweet little Canon PowerShot SD 1200 IS - I love that little camera for tucking into my pocket and getting quick shots - but I definitely need more power - and I got it.

A "No Wake" buoy in the lake - at the highest zoom on the old camera.

And the new camera - wow!

Two pedal boats - look at the one with the little shade on it - on the left. Highest zoom on the old camera . . .

Oh look at those two boys in the pedal boat with the new camera!!!!!

Look again - the boys in the boat on the right . . .

Zoooom!

There's a sailboat out in the lake - best zoom with the old camera, wonder what they are doing out there?

Oh look - he is going to go overboard and take a swim!!!

I am having so much fun with this new camera!!!!
