I love the appliqued Hawaiian quilts and started this one when we first moved to Washington in 2001. It is done in reverse needle turn applique so that the seams of the white fabric wouldn't show on top of the purple. I love doing reverse applique.
Each block is different - it is from a book given to me by a friend . . .
Close up of two blocks . . .
This is the border - the dolphins were my own design . . .
This quilt top is at Julie's, waiting its turn to be quilted. It will be a lovely summer quilt when finished.
Joanne - I so enjoy seeing all your quilts. This reverse applique technique is apparently part of a BOM that I've just joined, so I'll get a chance to try it out. Beautiful quilt BTW.
Just when I think you've shown us most of the basics, you come up with yet another stunning technique. And then, of course you put your mega creative touch on it with that dolphin border. Wow. What else you got up your sleeve Jo? I still can't get over the fact that you were self taught. You continue to amaze me. ~Lili
This is soooo great Joann....I just recently read about the reverse applique...ooouuu...you did a great job...this looks so dainty!! I certainly enjoyed looking at your past post with all the wonderful quilts. You are quite the skilled seamstress! Your crazy quilt is one of my favorites!

Beautiful! It has taken you a while to get to the quilting but will be worth the wait.
I can't wait til I have the time to do stuff like that.
You continue to amaze me.
Oh I do love this quilt! The colour is very unusual and I love the dolphins...truly a work of love, now wonder it's taken you years to make.
What a beautiful quilt (top). The dolphin border is marvelous. Good for you. I hope the quilter does a very, very good job.
